gaining muscle
if you eat a 1500 calorie per day diet, as a 185 lb man can you still gain muscle if you keep your protein at 200 grams per day?
if you toast white bread does it change the carb value?

When trying to gain muscle I've been told your calories and protein need to be above that regularly used by the body. You're burning calories before, during and after exercise (even during rest days) and so you need an excess of calories and amino acids (BCAAs and L-Glutamine for example) for your muscle to not only repair but build upon previous repairs to cushion the impact of future, heavier weight. I try eat 6 meals every day not including supplements. I figure that works at more than enough food to support my body and allow my muscles the opportunity for growth. As well as taking in high calories and protein be sure to get lots of rest. Your central nervous system (CNS) needs to repair just like your muscles do otherwise you won't be able to lift the weight you need for the gains you want.
Try cut down (or cut out) the bread. Refined carbs are not the best when it comes to calories and beneficial carbs. Vegetables (particularly potatoes), yams, fruit and rice are excellent for slow burning carbs. Veg and rice won't spike insulin which is good for keeping the carbs from being stored inefficiently.
Hope that helps!

Re: gaining muscle
While many people struggle to lose weight, there are plenty of others out there who struggle to gain weight. If you want to gain muscle, you may have trouble fighting your genetic makeup but, there is something you can do about it.
Re: gaining muscle
Protein foods are very important for the muscles building.
Take at least 250 grams of the protein in your daily diet if you want to build and maintain your muscles.
